Logos
Logos are probably one of my favorite deliverables to create. People think designing logos is easy because they are tiny and consist of only a few elements. However, that is actually what makes them so difficult to design. You have to encapsulate the entire essence of a brand using a small number of shapes, letters, or words. A company’s logo will go on everything from tote bags to their website. Logos can even be enlarged to be the size of a tablecloth or a billboard. The logo has to be readable no matter what. Ideally a logo should be a good reflection of the entity that it is representing. I have designed several logos at my current role at Janney Montgomery Scott LLC for teams of financial advisors. I either take inspiration from the initials of the advisors’ names and create what is known as typographic logo or I draw upon the region or area where the team is located. For example, for a team in a city I created a line drawing of a skyline to utilize in the logo. Another team wanted a local landmark incorporated, so I used a photo of a lighthouse as a starting point and drew an icon version in Adobe Illustrator. I always like hearing what the advisors have in mind for their logos and enjoy collaborating with them and my other colleagues to create a final logo design that is loved by all.
