Christmas in July
I know it’s the middle of July, but I couldn’t write a design blog without sharing one of my holiday cards. I started designing my own holiday card in 2018, after I graduated from undergrad, and have continued to design one every year subsequently. I get a few printed and hand them out or mail them to friends, family, and colleagues. Personally, I think it is great to send and receive actual mail. Pictured here is 2022’s design. There are two snow globe designs. One is an indoor scene with a perfect wrapped present and the other is an outdoor scene with a train whizzing past some trees. I always try to capture the merriment of the season with my cards and hopefully make whoever receives one smile. I draw the icons myself in Adobe Illustrator and then create a pattern from those icons. Drawing icons is not something I get to do often at my day job so these holiday cards are a great way for me to keep up with that skill. My holiday cards currently aren’t on my portfolio site, so if you haven’t received one personally, you’re out of luck. For now, enjoy celebrating Christmas in July!
